ederal Café is located in Ciutat Vella, the center of Valencia.
I consider this cafe a secret spot (I know it isn’t, but I’m just gonna pretend it is, for the sake of my own joy).
If you’ve ever used Google Maps in this city, you know it can be challenging to find your way through the maze of the old center, but I found it. Somewhere on a corner in a quiet street, Federal Café is there to pleasantly surprise you.
A serene spot for any occassion
It’s a pretty big cafe for Valencian standards, most cafes are quite small.
It has high ceilings, cute window seats, a big wooden table, and an outside terrace. It immediately felt like a very serene spot, almost as if I wasn’t in the city. I loved the interior design as well, it’s the perfect balance of calm and colorful, modern, vintage and homey.
Some people were working on their laptops, some were catching up with a group of friends, others had lunch meetings, and some were on a date. It doesn’t really matter what you wanna do, Federal Café is a great spot for any occasion.
The music isn’t too loud, the staff is super friendly and the service is great.
Another cool bonus: there’s air conditioning. I can tell you…that’s absolutely delightful in the middle of August.
When I got home, I checked their website and read their story. Guess what? I caught the right vibe. This is what I read:
“Federal is a small town on the Binna Burra Road, halfway between Possum Creek and Goonengerry in Northern New South Wales, Australia. There’s not much to do but dream, and watch the rain fall on quiet streets and the phonebox. Federal is our cafe in Valencia. Drink a coffee made with fresh, pure milk, and imagine you’re on the Binna Burra Road. Sometimes you can be in two places at the same time.”
Well, yes, Federal Café: confirmed!
Heaven for brunch lovers
The very friendly waitress gave us a menu and I was totally overwhelmed by all of the different options. Give me too many and I start to overthink everything. However, that doesn’t mean I didn’t love their menu. We both ordered an iced latte and madre mía pizzeria, was it delicious. They did add syrup to it, so if you don’t like sugar in your coffee, just let them know. There’s a variety of plant-based milks to choose from as well.
I inspected their menu thoroughly and came to the realization that this is heaven for brunch lovers. Why? Well, they serve meat, sandwiches, pancakes, bread, soups, cakes, and pastries. If you’re vegan, you’re probably gonna like the alternatives they offer.
I was happy to see that there are plenty of healthy options too. Did someone say kombucha? Sign me up!
